Accommodation in Buenos Aires

Accommodation in Buenos Aires

TEFL Course Accommodation

Below you will find some information on the accommodation we normally offer to our TEFL students. Minimum stay is 28 nights and maximum is 16 weeks. You can find the prices below the accommodation information

Choosing the right Buenos Aires accommodation is as important as choosing the best TEFL school in Buenos Aires. Íbero TEFL offers different options to meet the needs of all of our students. Some students prefer the comfort and security of a homestay in Buenos Aires, while others like the adventure of being on their own. Íbero TEFL offers three choices for accommodation in Buenos Aires: Homestay, Shared Apartment, and Private Apartments. We work closely with Argentines of all different ages, lifestyles, and family dynamics, who rent room(s) in their homes to our students.  You are not only spared the stress of finding a comfortable place to stay, you also get the chance to live with locals and practice the Spanish you will be learning in class. Most students begin the first 2 or 3 months in a Homestay or Shared Apartment, then move to an apartment with their friends from school. Please take into account the minimum stay is 28 nights and you must confirm your flight details with us in order to start booking your program.

Íbero´s founders, as directors of a creative learning environment, have found that a fundamental part of Spanish immersion in Buenos Aires is the homestay. Sharing a home with an Argentinian family will allow you to improve your Spanish faster and is the most effective way to become fully immersed into the Spanish language and culture of Argentina.

Summary

  • All student housing rooms are fully furnished with a private or shared bathroom, internet, and use of the common spaces in the house (living room, kitchen, balcony etc…).
  • We only offer accommodation at safe and comfortable homestays and shared apartments.
  • The Argentine homes we work with are selected, visited and approved by the Íbero TEFL staff. We screen all potential housing options to ensure they comply with our expectations of comfort and security. These homes are in safe neighborhoods, centrally located and in the vicinity of our school.
    • Íbero TEFL homestay not only puts a roof over your head, it integrates you into the language and culture of Buenos Aires. For this reason, the minimum homestay is 4 weeks.
    • You can book a homestay or shared apartment with Íbero for minimum 28 nights or 4weeks and maximum 24 weeks.
    • In order to complete your accommodation booking with us, it is a sine qua non requirement to provide your flight information (exact day and time of arrival, flight number and airline).

Íbero Homestay Program

Íbero TEFL School’s Homestay Program places students with an Argentine family during their stay in Buenos Aires. Students have a private room, with a bed, desk, dresser, and ventilation during the summer and heating in winter. Most homes offer internet access. Meals are not included but students will have full kitchen access to prepare their meals.

Staying with a local porteño family is both exciting and rewarding. Our host families provide the best insight into how Argentine families live day-to-day. This interaction with a family will help you communicate better and faster in Spanish and allow you to pick up words used in daily Buenos Aires situations. Some homes are single standing homes, apartments or multifamily homes. Buenos Aires is a very multi-cultural city and a lot of people are from different countries originally. Living in a homestay will give you a great view of all the different cultures and ethnicities that our city has to offer. All Íbero TEFL host families will do their best to make you speak more Spanish and practice with them and be social but will be sensitive to and understanding of other cultures.  Íbero TEFL families normally organize weekend excursions where you will have opportunities to learn about Argentine culture through the inclusion in various aspects of their lives.

All our families are carefully selected by our staff and we strive to ensure that high living standards are maintained, such that students live in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.  All our host families live near the school (some walking distance, and others with a maximum of 15 minutes by public transportation). Our Accommodations Coordinator is available to assist students with all of their questions or concerns regarding any Íbero accommodation. All students receive an orientation package that explains accommodation information, rules, and expectations.

As it is a very pleasant experience, our ex-students have created lasting friendships with their Buenos Aires family members.  Our host families are diverse but we always make an effort to match students to a host family with common interests. If you have any special requirements or preference, we ask that you inform us before you arrive in Buenos Aires, at the time of booking. Let us know if you have allergies or prefer not to live with children or pets.

Students can choose between a single or double room. Each room is furnished with a bed, desk, and a closet. All rooms and living areas are kept neat and tidy. You will also have access to a shared bathroom. Private bathrooms are also an option, depending on availability.

Bed linens and towels are provided by the host family. The host family will be happy to launder the sheets and towels once a week. Students are responsible for personal laundry. Internet access is available upon request and telephone access is restricted depending on the host family.

Each family has its own house rules regarding smoking, alcohol consumption, student responsibilities, cleaning, security, noise, friends visiting, telephone use, meal times, etc. These will be outlined, if applicable, in your housing agreement.

Homestay

Living with a porteño host family allows you to quickly immerse yourself into Argentine society.
All families are carefully selected by Íbero Spanish Argentina and provide the student with a private room and comfortable surroundings in very secure buildings.  All host families are middle to upper-middle class with high living standards.  Family homes are located in neighbourhoods near our school in the downtown area or in residential areas like Recoleta or Palermo.  All homestays are within walking distance of Íbero or easily accessible by public transportation.  All homes are regularly monitored by Íbero staff to ensure that students will be happy with their homestay.

Upon reserving accommodation in an Íbero homestay, you will

  • Receive your own housekey to come and go as you please
  • Have a private bedroom that can be locked, and, depending on the home, have a private or a shared bathroom with hot water 24 hours a day
  • Not have cooking access to the kitchen
  • Have a great opportunity to interact with locals and to practice your new Spanish skills
  • Not be allowed to invite others to stay the night

  • Need to have the ability to adapt to other customs and social norms. Ex: drinking mate in the afternoons, greeting others with besitos (small kisses), later meal times, etc.

Shared Apartments

Our shared apartment accommodations are similar to homestays, but offer a greater level of personal independence.  Each apartment is shared by one or two local Argentines and up to three foreign students.  They are all fully furnished (furniture, bed sheets, towels, etc.) apartments in which locals chose to share their living space with students.  Each accommodation is located in a secure building within walking distance of Íbero, or is easily accessible by public transportation.

Upon reserving accommodation in an Íbero shared apartment, you will

  • Have complete access to the kitchen to cook your own meals or to enjoy some takeout empanadas or pizza
  • Not be allowed to invite others to stay the night
  • Need to be respectful of the other apartment and building occupants
  • Have a great opportunity to practice your new Spanish skills with your Argentine apartment-mate.
