Choosing the right Buenos Aires accommodation is as important as choosing the best TEFL school for a TEFL course in Buenos Aires. Íbero TEFL offers different options to meet the needs of all of our students. Some students prefer the comfort and security of a homestay in Buenos Aires, Argentina, while others like the adventure of being on their own. Íbero TEFL offers three choices for accommodation in Buenos Aires: Homestay, Shared Apartment, and Private Apartments. We work closely with Argentines of all different ages, lifestyles, and family dynamics, who rent room(s) in their homes to our students.  You are not only spared the stress of finding a comfortable place to stay, you also get the chance to live with locals and practice the Spanish you will be learning in class. Most students begin the first 2 or 3 months in a Homestay or Shared Apartment and then move to an apartment with their friends from school. Please take into account the minimum stay at an accommodation arranged by Íbero TEFL is 28 nights and you must confirm your flight details with us in order to start booking your program.

Íbero TEFL founders, as directors of a creative learning environment, have found that a fundamental part of Spanish immersion in Buenos Aires is the homestay. Sharing a home with an Argentinian family will allow you to improve your Spanish faster and is the most effective way to become fully immersed into the Spanish language and culture of Argentina.

Íbero TEFL Homestay Program

Íbero TEFL School’s Homestay Program places students with an Argentine family during their stay in Buenos Aires. Students have a private room, with a bed, desk, dresser, and ventilation during the summer and heating in winter. Most homes offer internet access. Meals are not included but students but you will have full kitchen access to prepare your meals.

Staying with a local porteño family is both exciting and rewarding. Our host families provide the best insight into how Argentine families live day-to-day. This interaction with a family will help you communicate better and faster in Spanish and allow you to pick up words used in daily Buenos Aires situations. Some homes are single standing homes, apartments or multifamily homes. Buenos Aires is a very multi-cultural city and a lot of people are from different countries originally. Living in a homestay, will give you a great view of all the different cultures and ethnicities that our city has to offer. All Íbero TEFL host families will do their best to make you speak more Spanish and practice with them and be social but will be sensitive to and understanding of other cultures.  Íbero TEFL families normally organize weekend excursions where you will have opportunities to learn about Argentine culture through the inclusion in various aspects of their lives.

All our families are carefully selected by our staff and we strive to ensure that high living standards are maintained, such that students live in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.  They are located near the school (some walking distance, and others with a maximum of 15 minutes by public transportation). Our Accommodations Coordinator is available to assist students with all of their questions or concerns regarding any Íbero accommodation. All students receive an orientation package that explains accommodation information, rules, and expectations.

As it is a very pleasant experience, our ex-students have created lasting friendships with their Buenos Aires family members.  Our host families are diverse but we always make an effort to match students to a host family with common interests. If you have any special requirements or preference, we ask that you inform us before you arrive in Buenos Aires, at the time of booking. Let us know if you have allergies or prefer not to live with children or pets.

Students can choose between a single or double room. Each room is furnished with a bed, desk, and a closet. All rooms and living areas are kept neat and tidy. You will also have access to a shared bathroom. Private bathrooms are also an option, depending on availability.

Bed linens and towels are provided by the host family. The host family will be happy to launder the sheets and towels once a week. Students are responsible for personal laundry. Internet access is available upon request and telephone access is restricted depending on the host family.

Each family has its own house rules regarding smoking, alcohol consumption, student responsibilities, cleaning, security, noise, friends visiting, telephone use, meal times, etc. These will be outlined, if applicable, in your housing agreement, or terms and conditions from our website.

  • Speak Spanish all the time, avoid expressing yourself in English or in your native language all the time. Staying with local people means you will practice your Spanish with native Spanish speakers and become familiar with the particularities of Buenos Aires Spanish.

  • Peace and quiet. Enjoy a relaxing atmosphere at home. Living with your Argentinian host will give you stability, plus a quiet and peaceful environment for relaxation and study.

Recommendations

  • It is not allowed to bring people you do not know or you have just met to your homestay, only classmates are accepted.
  • It is not allowed to share your bedroom unless so requested in your original booking.
  • You can bring classmates to the accommodation during the day.
  • Please inform the family if you are going out and coming back to the house late.
  • Please inform the school exact start and finish dates. Do not make further arrangements with the homestay to prolong your stay because most homestays manage busy booking agendas with the school.
  • If you are happy with the family, you can prolong your stay with the host’s agreement if you let the school know with prior notice, as early as possible.
  • Please be responsible for your own laundry and personal belongings.
  • Please use the kitchen only to prepare simple meals not fried food or complicated meals which will bring in uncomfortable consequences with the rest of the people at your homestay.
